Not only do I have clean socks, but I have a bunch of sock blockers to lay them out to dry.

Hooray for husbands who make sock blockers!
Yeah, shameless promotion, I know. But they looked so pretty on my ironing board that I couldn't resist.

I cast on for this sock and never even paused to take a photo until I ran out of yarn.

Love. Love. Love.
I have more than enough to make knee socks and at least another pair. I think for the knee socks I'll try to match them as much as I can. The Navajo plying is working so much better than I would have imagined. Maybe for the next pair of socks I'll blend the colors together a bit more and Andean ply instead. Who knows? For now, I'm in love with these and can't wait to spin some more so I can finish them.

I don't know if you've heard of the 52 Pair Plunge or not, but I joined it a while back. The goal is to knit 52 pairs of socks in 52 weeks. I'm not sure whether I'm truly crazy to try, I mean I probably won't make my goal unless I knit a ton of Barbie socks in the last few weeks of the challenge. But what the heck, I always have a pair of socks on the needles anyway for portable waiting in line knitting. In fact, I found out the other night that I'm not the only one who knits in the drive-thru of fast food restaurants. *waves to Christine*
So it's nearly three weeks into the challenge and I've got two pairs completed. Go me!
I made these out of Trekking which is a bit splitty but the color changes are highly addictive. They are for my 6 yo foster son and he loves them. He shows them off to whomever is around.
And I wove in the ends of these last night. Socks that Rock in the Terra Firma color. They feel luscious on my feet and I'm mostly happy with them. One is slightly smaller than the other and I either used different sized needles or one has an extra 5 stitch repeat.
The next socks on the needles are for the 11 yo foster son. He picked out some Sockotta yarn which I've not worked with in the past. So far, I'm not loving it...but I felt the same way about the Trekking as first so I'm withholding judgment for now.
Oh and I am now mad with power as I've beencoerced elected to be the local knitters guild vice-president. I will endeavor not to shoot one of my friend's in the face, but watch out for the deadly dpns!

I finished my Koigu socks a few weeks back and keep forgetting to post pictures of them.

I got the idea for these socks from the cover of the Vogue socks book. I started them over a year ago. But I had them on the back burner working on other projects and such. Hooray! They are finally finished and I've even worn them twice. I'm very happy with the way they tuned out and I enjoyed the fair isle technique so much that I wish I could afford to make an entire sweater out of that yarn to match my socks. Add that to the dream knitting list.
So instead, I found a lovely fair isle vest to try out. There's even a knit along blog started for it. It's the Snowflakes and Arrows Vest from KnitPicks It's a very interesting design and although the pattern doesn't go up to my size, I'm altering it as I go.
The sample is knit up with black and purple and while purple is my favorite color, I don't wear it very often. So I decided to knit the whole thing in shades of brown. Here's my swatch:

And here's my progress so far.

The second photo shows of the colors best. The first one had bit too much direct sunlight. So far, my swatch seems to be fairly accurate. Too soon to tell really how well it will fit. The photo of the original makes it look as though the garment has some waist shaping. However, there's none indicated in the pattern and upon closer examination, it looks as though the vest was arranged that way for the photo. Which is a bummer, but perhaps I'll alter it a bit to nip in at the waist. My waist is ten inches smaller than my hips and my bust so I think that would be more flattering.

I finished the first Koigu sock. Try to ignore the pastiness of my skin.

But since the ribbing on the top is too tight, I'm going to have to rip back and redo that in a larger size needle. No big deal.
I'm going to be teaching a class on socks from the toe up at the Yarn Shop this month. So once that's out of the way, I can get back to my other Koigu sock.
In the meantime, I'm plugging away on the pattern for my felted entrelac bag and someday I'll get back to that lace shawl. Maybe. I have another cousin getting married this summer and I keep thinking...oh, I could finish it by then. Yeah right. If I was unemployed again maybe.
*sigh*
It will be finished someday.
Maybe.

Today I will have been here at my new house in Kansas for four weeks. It's been a tougher adjustment than I thought it would be. Mostly because I spend a lot of time by myself in the house because the husband is working 10-12 hours a day...and a lot of Saturdays too. But this week everything is starting to fall into place. A big part of the reason for that is I've found a local knitting group.( Read more... )
